Bariloche is surrounded by peaks that are perfect for a full day out in the mountains. In just a few hours of hiking, you can leave town behind, climb above the tree line and enjoy wide views of lakes, glaciers and the Andes. Here are some of the best full-day summits around Bariloche that I guide regularly.

Cerro Ventana – Fossil Ridge Adventure

Cerro Ventana is a fantastic choice if you like variety: forest, open slopes and a beautiful rocky ridge near the top. The highlight is the “fossil ridge,” where you walk among strange rock formations and can find visible fossils in the stone. It’s like hiking through a natural museum, with the bonus of big views over the lakes and surrounding peaks.

The route involves steady elevation gain but no technical climbing, so it’s a great option for hikers with a basic level of fitness who want something more exciting than a simple forest walk. The ridge feels wild and remote, even though we’re not far from Bariloche.

Cerro Goye – A Quiet Local Classic

Cerro Goye is one of the quieter summits near Bariloche. The trail starts in the forest and gradually opens up to alpine meadows and rocky slopes. From the top, you get a beautiful view over the lakes and nearby peaks, but without the crowds you often find on more famous mountains.

This is a great choice if you want a full day out that feels relaxed and local. The pace can be adapted to your level, and we can take time to enjoy the scenery, learn about the area and maybe even have the summit to ourselves outside of peak season.

Cerro Bella Vista – Views That Match Its Name

“Bella Vista” means “beautiful view,” and this mountain lives up to its name. The trail climbs through forest and then breaks out onto open slopes with wide panoramas of the Nahuel Huapi National Park. As we gain height, the lakes, islands and distant glaciers all come into view.

The ascent is steady and can feel demanding in places, but the reward is a classic Bariloche summit experience. On a clear day, you can see a long chain of peaks stretching into Chile and deep into Patagonia. It’s a perfect objective if you want a full-value day with big scenery from start to finish.

Cerro López via Palotinas – A True Mountain Challenge

For those looking for something more adventurous, Cerro López via Palotinas is one of the best full-day summits in the area. This route has more elevation gain than the others and includes a short, steep section with a fixed rope. With guidance and proper technique, it’s manageable for fit hikers who are comfortable with a bit of exposure.

The reward is huge: Cerro López offers one of the best 360-degree views in the entire Nahuel Huapi National Park. From the summit, you can see deep valleys, hanging glaciers, multiple lakes and a long line of Andean peaks in every direction. It feels like standing on a balcony above Patagonia.

Choosing the Right Summit for You

All of these mountains are full-day outings and can be adapted to your fitness level and experience. Some are better for a first summit, others are ideal if you already hike regularly and want a bit more challenge. We’ll look at the weather, conditions and your goals to choose the best option for the day.

If you’d like to explore these routes in more detail, you can find general information and maps on sites like AllTrails—but going with a local guide adds safety, route knowledge and the freedom to just enjoy the day without worrying about navigation.

If you’re ready for your own summit day around Bariloche—whether it’s a fossil-filled ridge on Cerro Ventana or a big 360° panorama from Cerro López—get in touch and we’ll plan the perfect mountain adventure for you.
