Did you know you can walk on a glacier just a few hours from Bariloche? On Tronador Mountain, we leave the busy viewpoints behind and step directly onto ancient ice, surrounded by peaks, cliffs and deep blue crevasses.

Safety is always first. We use proper glacier gear: crampons for grip on the ice, a helmet for protection and a harness for roped travel when needed. I’ll show you how everything works, step by step. You don’t need any previous mountaineering or glacier experience—just a basic level of fitness and a sense of adventure.

I bring my experience from guiding on glaciers in Iceland and New Zealand, where I’ve spent years leading people safely across ice. That background helps me choose the best route for the day, read the conditions and share stories from different corners of the world’s mountains.

Our glacier hike starts with a two-day adventure, spending the night at the Otto Meiling Hut. From there, we access the glacier early, when the light is soft and the snow is still crisp. With every step, you feel the crunch of ice under your crampons and the cool air rising from the glacier surface.

Glaciers are like slow, frozen rivers. They move a few centimeters to several meters each day, carving valleys and shaping the mountains around them. As we walk, you’ll see crevasses, seracs and other ice formations that show how alive the glacier really is. We’ll talk about how glaciers form, why they are so important for our water supply, and how climate change is affecting them here in Patagonia and around the world.

This is more than a simple hike. It’s a chance to sleep in a high mountain hut, watch the sunset over the Andes, and then walk on a glacier that has been shaping this landscape for thousands of years. If you’re curious about glaciers, love learning new things, or simply want a unique experience near Bariloche, this tour is for you.

Get in touch to plan your Tronador glacier adventure, and let’s walk on ice together in the heart of Patagonia.
